John also has experience working in an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) setting where he facilitated groups for adults and young adults and is also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

While John enjoys working with all clients his passion is working with couples and partners. Because of this passion he completed an intensive year long training in couples work with Dr. Stan Tatkin, the creator of the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT), and is a Level 2 PACT Certified Clinician.

John approaches his clinical work with a strong emphasis on relationships, attachment and the importance of multi-cultural approaches. He understands the importance of knowing where a client comes from and where they have been in order to develop interventions and approaches that are safe, effective and familiar. He also believes that in order to truly help clients you must understand the context in which they live and learn including patterns and behaviors that may have repeated over time. Through the use of PACT, DBT, CBT and the Collaborative Change Model, John and his clients work collaboratively to better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. He has experience working with clients from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

John is a member of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA) and is on the panel of experts at the Council on Contemporary Families at the University of Texas at Austin.
